Church Planters
Church planting is the fastest way to introduce people to Jesus. The 1990’s saw a renewal in the interest and efforts of planting new churches in America. Many of the churches that were planted, while striving to be culturally relevant, were structured like existing churches: multiple staff, a large Sunday gathering, a small group structure, ministry teams, etc. This structure requires a lot of resources and manpower to start. Discovery started off as such a church. In early 2007, the staff and leaders evaluated every aspect of the church. With a lot of prayer, honest (and sometimes painful) evaluation, and conversations, the DCC leadership decided that God was calling them to transition from a traditionally structured church to a micro-church network.
The benefits of planting micro-churches over traditionally structured churches are many. Financially, it costs next to nothing for a micro-church to plant a new micro-church, whereas a traditionally structured church costs in the hundreds of thousands (although there are churches making some wonderful innovations in this area, launching smaller “satelite campuses” at a fraction of the cost of a full-blown church plant). Most importantly, micro-churches are simple to start because of their structure, and because of their simplicity, they’re much easier to reproduce.
As a candidate for planting a new church in the DCC network of micro-churches, you (along with a mentor) will go through the material on this site in preparation for planting your new church. This church planting profile will cover the following steps to planting a micro-church in the DCC network:
-
The Man: Step #1 will cover what is expected of the man who plants a church based on the Bible books of 1 Timothy, 2 Timothy, and Titus.
- The Mission: Step #2 will focus on the mission of the church planter, using principles learned from 1-2 Timothy and Titus, Discovery’s mission and vision, and things learned from experience in church planting.
- The Message: Step #3 will focus on the message, which is Jesus.
- The Principles: Step #4 will focus on nine principles that are used to develop the DNA of the new micro-church.
- The Process: Step #5 will cover the step-by-step process of planting a church planting micro-church—from theory to reality.
This process will equip, enable, and empower you to plant a new church in the DCC network that will itself plant new churches. Your first step is to set up a schedule with the church planter that is mentoring you to go through the material. From there, watch the following: “The Man, the Mission, and the Message”.
